Sorry for the lack of posts... I've been out enjoying the beautiful weather instead of inside doing my nails or editing posts. TGIF! I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the weekend! I'm going to an outdoor concert festival on Saturday and I was so excited for it until I checked the forecast... it looks like it's going to be raining and cold... boo :(
Anyway today's post is inspired by @youngwildandpolished's skittle manis. I used her watercolor tutorial for this look and am happy to say I finally succeeded at this technique! I've tried it several times but always ended up taking it off in frustration.

Middle/Ring: Layla unnamed white x2 + watercolor with I'm With The Lifeguard and Endless Summer
Pinky: Color Club - Endless Summer x3
China Glaze - I'm With The Lifeguard. I had a lot of trouble capturing this color. Neons are so annoying to photograph. The picture below that I took with my cellphone is closer but it's still not exact. Check out Scrangie's swatch here for a better shot of the color. It's a bright tennis ball green with a bit of green and gold shimmer. I had issues with this being streaky and patchy although other reviewers didn't seem to have issues. I don't know if maybe I just got a bad bottle or didn't shake it well enough...? Next time maybe I'll start with a white base. I ended up doing 4 coats, then topcoat (because I was worried it would never dry!), then a 5th coat and more topcoat.
Color Club - Endless Summer is a nice vivid medium-dark blue (does that even make sense? I'm tired). The formula wasn't too bad. It self leveled nicely but was a bit sheer so I needed 3 coats. It also dried to a semi-matte rubbery looking finish but was fine with topcoat.
Anyone have any tips for photographing neons? What do you think of this mani?
I like it, it looks very fun and bright. I have a hard time photographing neons too! The camera just goes crazy with it, lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! :) ya neons look great but are a pain to photograph :(
DeleteI haven't figured out the secret to photographing neons either. I love your watercolors though, very bright and pretty and perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you! If I figure something out I'll definitely share!
DeleteI have trouble photographing neons too. They always turn out in pictures looking nothing like the real thing lol. Your mani is really bright and pretty! I love the combination of colors you chose for it. :)

thanks Yun! :) I'll definitely be doing more of these watercolor manis!
DeleteThis actually reminds me of jade stone. :) Very pretty.
ReplyDeletethanks Breena! I guess the colors got kind of washed out in the second picture because of my camera. Maybe I will use this technique again for a jade look :)
DeleteThat is a cool and very interesting effect, I like it a lot! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've been out enjoying the weather! This mani looks awesome! I love how your watercolor turned out!
ReplyDeletethanks Traci! the weather is crap this week though lol :(
DeleteThe weather here is not good at all :) I'm wearing winter shades on the nails :) Love the bright green. The mixture of colour almost looks like marble effect :)
ReplyDeletethank you! I really like the marble effect too! it is really cold here this week :( last week was beautiful though!
DeleteThis is gorgeous! I love how the water color nails, they have so much depth and are really interesting to look at! I also love the colours you've used for this one. I also have a hard time with neon's, mostly oranges and neon pinks are a nightmare for me! I think your pictures came out beautifully! xx
ReplyDeletethank you so much! I'll definitely be using this technique again! I think all neons give me issues when photographing haha. They came out eventually but I seriously took 100 pictures to get these 2 decent ones!
DeleteHow cute looks this manicure :)
ReplyDeletethanks Claudia!
DeleteNeons seem to give most people's cameras fits, including mine.
ReplyDeleteya I wish there was a way to just capture their beauty!
