Pantone 2016 Colors Watermarble

Hi everyone! Sorry again for the lack of posts! For this week's Twinsie Tuesday we're doing manis inspired by the Pantone 2016 colors: Rose Quartz and Serenity.

"A softer take on color for 2016: For the first time, the blending of two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year
As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.
The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association.
In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer's increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage." --- from http://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2016

I'll admit while I've seen tons of Pantone colors manis I haven't actually read the blurb until now. I like the idea of using color to "challenge traditional perceptions of color association" especially. It totally explains why the colors are reminiscent of a baby shower! And originally I thought they were just being indecisive haha

I tried to match the colors as best as I could. The pink is a bit washed out in my pictures... It looks closer in real life! I used Color Club Je T'aime (pink) and Orly Snowcone (blue).

I decided to do a watermarble inspired by Colette of My Simple Little Pleasures since I haven't done a watermarble in ages! After this mani I ended up doing watermarble for my 2 manis after :) I found they lasted over a week without chipping for me so it's worth the extra time

I've been having a bit of trouble with polishes drying way too fast on the surface of the water though :( The polishes spread on the water fairly well but dry way too fast to work with easily. I did 3 drops of each polish = 6 drops and the outer 2 rings were already dry when I started on the design. I couldn't do traditional shapes because the edges were dry and would just pull... so I just did random squiggles in the little space I had. I always see people using like 12 drops of polish for watermarbles and I really don't think I was going slowly... Anyone have any suggestions?

Don't forget to show the other Twinsies some love!

  2. Such a cute color combo and lovely marbling! I had nail polishes dry while marbling, but only at the edges.

    1. Thanks aneta! All of mine were drying too fast... I think maybe it was the air conditioner... I'll try again now that it's too cold for air conditioning

  3. That actually reminds me of real marble, it looks so cool!
I think the drying of the marble just depends on the colours you choose. I also experienced some colours are drying more fast, although I didn't change anything else like water temperature.
