I was stuck on this Twinsie Tuesday prompt for quite a while. My two main hobbies outside of nail blogging are probably skiing and yoga and I didn't have any good ideas of how to translate those into a mani. I decided to do an ocean and sky scene because I really love going speed boating in the summer. I don't go often enough to consider it a hobby though... it is too expensive to go often!
This was inspired by Piggie Luv aka @narmai 's Jelly Dessert mani. I really liked her mani and wanted to recreate it but I only have a blue sheer tint polish right now. I then looked at the blue section on it's own and thought it kind of looked like ocean waves so I decided to use her technique to create my ocean.
I started with 2 coats of Color Club In De-Nile from the Safari Garden collection. Formula was absolutely amazing... It was a bit thick but in a way that made it easy to control and very opaque. I was really impressed with the coverage for such a light color.
Once that was dry I used a small flat brush and white acrylic paint to paint the clouds and waves.
Then I painted the bottom half of my nails with OPI Sheer Tints I Can Teal You Like Me to create the "ocean." I tried to create a bit of a gradient and make it darker towards the bottom but I don't think it's very noticeable. I used 2-3 coats.
What do you think of this mani?
Don't forget to show the other Twinsies some love!

ReplyDeleteI like this technique! Cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara!
DeleteReally well done! It's hard to translate some things into nail art. One of my interests is Shakespearean theatre - but that means freehand, which is too hard!
ReplyDeleteThanks Claire! Yeah that would be hard... There are some girls that are amazing at freehand though! I don't know how they can paint so much detail on as small a space as nails!
DeleteReally cute idea to create an ocean and sky look on the nails to represent your hobbies.
ReplyDeleteThis mani is really cute! I love the waves!
ReplyDeletethanks Amber! :)
DeleteSo petty, I love the ocean or any water.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne!
DeleteThese look really cool!! I really like how you layered the sheer tint to create the water (:
ReplyDeletethanks Marisa!
DeleteVery cute idea to paint an ocean and sky and you made it look soft and delicate. I like it. I always find that yoga and skiing is very hard to learn, so I have a big respect for dose who like and do these sports!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I Just started yoga recently so I'm not very good I'm very wobbly during the standing on one leg poses haha and I'm not that good at skiing either but I really enjoy it :)
DeleteI think this is really beautiful, I love that base colour and I love how it all works so well together. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the base polish too! I can't believe it was in my untrieds for so long! Thanks! :)
DeleteVery interesting manicure. I like that you went a bit abstract with it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I didn't think I could do a good job at a realistic one to be honest so I changed the design to something easier and more fun :)
DeleteI love this. Definitely going to try this method next time making an ocean scene!
ReplyDeleteThanks Savannah! :) yeah it made it easy
DeleteReally pretty mani. :-D
ReplyDeletethanks Ananka! :)
