Glitter Placement Tessellation + review of Born Pretty Store loose glitter

This mani was inspired by Nails Like Lace Glitter Placement Tessellation mani. I used 2 coats of Nicole by OPI Alex by the Books and some loose diamond holo glitter from Born Pretty Store. Use my code SL10K31 for 10% off :)

This design was easier to do than I thought it would be :) some of the glitters are a bit crooked but it's not too bad for a first try. I even managed to do this design on my right hand! I applied a bit of top coat to my nail before placing the glitters. I used a dotting tool dipped in top coat to pick up the glitters.

On to my review...

Shipping: The item shipped on May 8 and I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to get to me in Canada. I received it on May 27 which isn't too bad. Much better than when I've ordered nail stuff on eBay... my experience with eBay is it usually takes 1-2 months to arrive so this is much faster :)

Glitters: Let me start by saying this is the first loose glitter I've ever used so some of these observations may apply to all loose glitter... I'm not sure. The glitters were a bit bigger than I was expecting. I only managed to fit 2 squares across my nails. If you look at Nails Like Lace's mani she managed to fit 3 squares using glitter that she fished out of nail polish. It was also a bit thicker than I was expecting but I generally did not have any issues with it sticking up. A few glitters did stick up but I think this is because I was a bit too slow in placing the glitter so the top coat that I had put underneath dried already and created a lump underneath the glitter. I really like the silver holo look of these glitters. These were also cut well, I did not notice any irregularities in size or shape, all the glitters were nice and uniform.

Packaging: The glitters come in a really cute clear plastic container with a flower shape imprinted on top. The container was bigger than I was expecting. I would say it's a bit bigger than a typical lip balm that comes in a pot. It's about the same size as my Make Up Forever Aqua Cream. The container is easy to open and close and seems secure. I also found that it could be opened easily without using fingers (by sandwiching the container between the palms of both your hands and turning) which is useful if your nails are still dent-able!

Value: I'm not sure how many glitters are in a container but there's A LOT! This will definitely last you a long time. You can purchase these glitters here for $4.39 USD which is a pretty good deal considering how long it will last you :) you can use my code SL10K31 for 10% off

I tried using these glitters in a glitter gradient but I personally didn't like the look. I think the glitters are a bit too big for a glitter gradient (glitter used over top is OPI Which is Witch?). I much prefer these glitters for glitter placement :)

  2. This just blew my mind a little bit... amazing. The cubes are spot on - I have little patience for glitter placement at the moment but you're making me want to try again. I love the green colour of the base polish too. Can't wait to see what else you come up with for these. Great review, don't forget to earn your Born Pretty points by posting all over their website with it too :D

    1. Thank you so much! I think these were easier to do actually than say a glitter placement border because you can kind of slide these up against the neighboring glitter so the sides are touching if that makes sense... it makes it a bit easier to get them in position.

I'm still trying to figure out the Born Pretty website actually since I've never bought or reviewed anything from them before. I tried to submit my pictures but it said that it was only available if you have purchased through the website with that same account so I don't know if it will be approved. I didn't even have a Born Pretty account until after I made this post. I emailed the pictures directly to my contact there though so hopefully they will get posted!

  3. Hi! Thank you for commenting on my blog; I saw this on nailpolis and since I am new and only had a couple of minutes I couldn't work out how to message you. Now I am so glad I am here on your blog because you really need to know that this idea is simply genius! I love glitter like this but how you've placed it just looks stunning! :) This is really inspiring and it makes me want to think more about glitter placement planning in the future :) I'll be following you from now on xx

    1. Aaaw thank you! I'm glad I picked this diamond shape... I think it's more versatile than hex glitter since you can create different shapes with it. :) I don't really know how to use nailpolis either to be honest... I just post my pictures there occasionally but haven't really used it to interact with other people and i don't check it too often haha

  6. Great review! :) I agree with you. The glitters seem too big to be used as glitter gradient. I really love your glitter placement here. I don't have patience for that so I really admire your work. :D

    1. thank you! this actually was easier than I thought it would be! you don't have to place the glitters exactly... you can still slide them around for a bit while they're on the nail :)

  13. I'm so glad I found this review -- I had these glitters in my cart but wasn't sure if I wanted to buy them yet. I think I will end up purchasing them though because they would make the cutest snowflake nails! :D Or other random geometric glitter placement nails... xD
