Copycat Mani: Selena Dee Chevron Skittle Mani

I was feeling kind of uninspired and decided to do a copycat mani of this famous mani by Selena (IG: Selenadee_Nails). I seriously see this mani all over Instagram on those stolen nail art accounts.

What I used:
Color Club - Overboard x2 (my new favorite pink! and I usually don't like pink!)
Sally Hansen - Whirlwind White x2
Pueen plate 03
Konad black stamping polish
Color Club - What a Drag x2
Wet 'n Wild - Mega Watt x2 (suuuper old)

I found it really hard to stamp with this image. I kept getting it crooked! :( I also found that it was hard to pull the stamper away from the nail without getting strings of polish from the chevron lines all over my nail. My Cinderella hand ended up much better than my normal blogging hand which is why you're seeing it as the main picture instead. My blogging hand did not turn out well at all but this was the THIRD attempt and I really didn't feel like doing it again :( The base wasn't fully dry when I tried to stamp over it so I smooshed the base and the chevrons got all wonky. Also those stupid stringy bits from the chevron I was talking about... and a bare spot toward the tip... and some serious top coat smearing. Oh well everyone has their fails I guess so I thought I would share anyway.

Personally I think this would've looked better with wider chevron lines. Maybe it would have been easier if I just freehanded this design.

What do you think of this design? Do you ever feel like sometimes it would be easier to just freehand a design?

  1. I hate it when a manicure I have in my head doesn't turn out the best especially when I smudge the design with top coat. I like it and might give this a try. I love freehanding much better than stamping even though its harder to do. Its just something about it that I like better especially since sometimes my stamping is faded or crooked.

    1. ya you definitely have more control with freehand although it's more difficult! I hate it when topcoat smudges too! it's weird because i used SV and it STILL smudged... usually SV doesnt smudge but i guess it was getting a bit thick

  4. I also have the same problem when I'm stamping. Strings of polishes get stuck together. :( I wonder if there is a solution for that? :(

    1. I'm not sure if there's a solution but I've noticed it happens more often when the polish is thicker and less watery... tends to only happen to me when using konad polish not regular polish... But then regular polish doesn't always show up so :/ can't have both! :(
